Judging the Awards

These prestigious awards feature an esteemed panel of experts. Chaired by Julie Bissett, the judges will study all entries and compile a short list and a winner for each category.

  Julie Bissett - Chair

  Julie is publisher and managing editor of Dental Hygiene & Therapy which launched in November 2011. She has worked at FMC since January 2008.

  Melonie Prebble

  Melonie is a member of the dental industry for more than 20 years, Mel qualified as a dental hygienist in 1995. Her experience has led her to focus on business development and management, offering consultancy services and coaching.

  Mel is Founder of Sound Performance Coaching and in 2011 Mel joined the prestigious team at Wyten Technologies as their international clinical development manager. Mel is past Chair of the British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy London Region.

  Diane Rochford

  Diane has been working in Dentistry for over 20 years. First, as a Dental Nurse. Before qualifying as a Dental Hygienist from Guy’s Hospital, London in 1996. She was awarded the Hu-Friedy Scaling prize. Diane joined Dr. Linda Greenwall’s team in September, 1996.

  Diane has lectured on the Hygiene programme at World Aesthetic Congress (WAC) in 2006 & 2011, to the London Region British Dental Hygienist Association in 2007; Croatia in 2009. Diane has also written articles for Preventive Dentistry and Smile journal, and has recently joined the editorial boards for DH&T and Private Dentistry Journals. She is a Gold member of the British Dental Bleaching Society, current member of BSDHT and BPS. Diane is also a Clinical Coach for Jameson Management in the UK.

  Margaret Ross

  Margaret is Senior Lecturer for Dental Care Professionals and Programme Director of the BSc (Hons) Oral Health Sciences degree at the University of Edinburgh, based within Edinburgh Dental Institute.

  She was instrumental in the development of the first four year Honours BSc degree in Oral Health Sciences in the UK, which commenced at the University of Edinburgh in 2009. She has lectured extensively both within the UK and beyond and published many peer reviewed papers in this field. She is Chair of the Specialist Advisory Board for Dental Care Professionals of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, an examiner for the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of Edinburgh and England, and a Past President of the British Society of Dental Hygiene & Therapy.

  Donna Schembri

  Donna is a Hygienist with over twenty years of experience in dentistry, qualifying in 1994 from the Royal Army Dental Corps School of Hygiene as a civilian student. Shortly after qualifying she moved to Hong Kong, where she worked at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and a very perio orientated, private American specialist clinic.

  She was also a committee member of the Hong Kong Dental Hygienists Association. She holds a teaching qualification and has trained as a professional dental mentor, one of only a few DCPs to hold the Certificate in Mentoring in Dentistry from the FGDP. Donna is currently working with the Yorkshire Deanery to offer face to face, online and phone mentoring and coaching for both newly qualified Hygienists/Therapists and those dental professionals in need of support in both their professional and personal lives. Donna is also a DCP board member for the FGDP Yorkshire Division, a Key Opinion Leader on professional care for Ivoclar Vivadent, and lectures on hygiene and therapy related topics and personal development.

  John Stanfield

  John is a Dental Hygienist with over 30 years of experience. As well as his clinical work John was the Editor of 'Team in Practice' a quarterly educational journal for the dental team. He is the vice chair of the DCP committee at the Faculty of General Dental Practice and until recently an assessor for the FGDP Keyskills for DCP's.

  He has lectured nationally at such events as the ADI congress and The Dentistry Show. In 2008 John gained an MSc from the University of Portsmouth in E-Learning Technology and has been developing e-learning courses for members of the dental team. John was a member of the steering group for NHS Evidence – Oral Health, a website that brings all the relevant scientific papers together and reviews them.

  Ewa Rozwadowska

  Ewa is founder and joint principal of Confident Dental Care in Stroud, Glos. She is passionate about children’s dentistry and enjoys comprehensive aesthetic dentistry. Her practice was the first in the UK to achieve Investor in People, and has won Private Dentistry Practice Team of the Year and Preventive Practice of the Year for her Steps to Health hygienist programme.

  Ewa has been featured in Aesthetic Dentistry and regularly writes articles for dental magazines on teamwork and prevention. She holds a Certifi cate in Dental Practice Appraisal and is a Denplan Excel advisor. She is married and has 2 children.

  Sally Goss

  Sally was President of the British Dental Heath Foundation until 2000 and was voted Hygienist of the Year 2000. She was Hygienist Mentor to Boots Dentalcare until 2005.

  She was instrumental in setting up Smile and has been an Editorial Board member of Dental Health, Team Journal, Preventive Dentistry and, currently, DH&T She is a KOP to a number of leading dental companies and is a regular contributor to hygienist journals. She has a regular slot on BBC radio advising listeners on dental problems. Sally is a Director of Practice Doctor Ltd giving training advice and coaching to dental practices. She is a practice valuations consultant and works in private practice in Harley Street, London.

  Jacky Hart

  Jacky graduated as a dental therapist/hygienist from the Eastman Dental Hospital in 2001. She is a member of the BADT and the BSDHT. Since qualifying, Jacky has completed full training on tooth whitening.

  Debbie Mcgovern

  Debbie has more than 15 years’ experience in dentistry, She runs Liverpool Implant & Aesthetic Dental Spa with husband Marius and voluntarily runs study days for dental therapists, hygienists and the dental team in the north west.

  James Goolnik

  James is a dentist and founder of Bow Lane Dental group an award winning practice in London. He is past-president of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. James sits on the board of the British Dental Bleaching Society and his training company “Smiles by James” has trained over 700 Dentists and Hygienists.

  His book 'Brush' about having an outstanding career in Dentistry, whilst having a life, is a bestseller on Amazon with all the profits going to Dentaid. He was voted the most influential person in Dentistry in the UK in 2011 & 2012.
